UPPER ALTON HISTORIC DISTRICT The Upper Alton Historic District is centered around the former Shurtleff College campus (now the S.I.U. School of Dental Medicine). The entire campus as well as surrounding residential areas are within the district. The district contains over 60 buildings.
Some of the more important structures include:
1) Loomis Hall (built circa 1832) 2) Hastings House (built circa 1840) 3) Buckley House 3003 Leverett (built circa 1865) 4) Washington House 3006 Leverett (built circa 1835) 5) Elwell House 3220 College (built circa 1860) 6) Olcott House (built circa 1840) 7) Orlando Castle 1831 Seminary (built circa 1850)
