POST HOUSE
The Post House is a splendid example of Greek revival architecture. It was built by Capt. William Post, steamboat owner and twice mayor of Alton in 1838. Its 20-inch thick stone walls were originally covered with smooth two color cement. The cement was removed in the 1920’s leaving the house with its current appearance.
