Lyman HouseMIDDLETOWN HISTORIC DISTRICT
The Middletown Historic District includes significant portions of the traditional Middletown and Hunterstown neighborhoods. This is the largest of Alton's three historic districts and contains over 600 buildings. The district is primarily residential in character but does include commercial areas along Broadway. Over 150 buildings have been evaluated as having historical or architectural significance.

Architecturally, there are splendid examples of most styles popular between 1830 and 1920, including Federal, Italianate, Queen Anne, Gothic, Prairie, and Arts and Crafts.
